February Update

8th Feb 2021

Dear parent/ guardian,

Thank you to those people who picked up their child’s work pack on Friday. For those that have yet to do so, please call up to the front office in the school before 4pm today to collect your child’s pack. These packs have been prepared to give the children the opportunity to keep developing their literacy and numeracy skills and it’s very important that they are given the chance to do this.

Presently, school staff have an increasing workload which involves, supervising children, preparing on-line lessons, creating work packs, marking work submitted through the website and are also marking the written work in the home-school work packs. To make this workload more manageable, the teachers will continue to assess the written work in the packs but will now only give written feedback on two literacy pieces and two numeracy tasks from the pack. All other tasks will be assessed and filed in school. Children can continue to submit work through the website for feedback from their teacher.

The feedback from the pastoral phone calls has been very positive with anxiety about finishing all the work in the packs the only concern highlighted by parents. Again, I would stress that every household is different and that we are asking that you only do what you can in your circumstances. All the work does not have to be finished, it’s simply a matter of covering the amount of work that suits your situation.

On Friday 12th February we are giving everyone a half day off from online learning so the children at home and in school should finish their lessons at 12 noon on that day. The children in school will stay in school until their home usual time but will take part in different activities.

Mid-term break (Monday 15th – Friday 19th February) should be a clean break for everyone from the online learning to give parents, staff and children time to recharge the batteries. The school will be closed on those days for key worker children.

Please continue to help support your children’s learning by encouraging them to use the online platforms such as Accelerated Reader, Mathletics, Bug Club, MyON and Mathseeds. There will be a virtual assembly on Friday and children who achieve certificates up until Wednesday 3pm this week will have their names read out in the assembly.

Best wishes
